App for group texting. Commonly used in classes with group projects and Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) on campus.

Illini Bus

App for the MTD busses that run on the UIUC campus and throughout the cities of Champaign and Urbana. This app lists bus routes and times to help plan transportation on campus without a car. In addition to the busses, UIUC also offers SafeWalks and SafeRides for students. These are services to ensure safe travel on campus for times or places when students are unable to use busses. Examples include if busses are not running on weekends or if the place you need to go is not close to a bus stop. The phone number for SafeWalks and SafeRides can be found on the back of your I-Card.

Getting to Champaign-Urbana

There are multiple ways to get to Champaign from all over the world. The link below is a guide from ISSS describing in detail the different forms of transportation that can be utilized. It mainly goes over different options utilizing airplanes, trains, buses, shuttles, and taxis. Other options include ride services such as Uber and Lyft.

Getting Around Campus, Champaign, and Urbana

When you arrive in the Champaign-Urbana area, there are different ways of travel on campus even without a vehicle. One option is having a bike on campus. Upon move-in, we provide bike stickers that identify bikes belonging to JSM residents and many of our apartments offer bike racks. While many of our apartments are within walking distance of popular locations on campus, they are also located near various bus stops. Another option is SafeWalks and SafeRides. This service provided by the University is to ensure safe travel at night when the busses are not running or if there is a location that is not near a bus line. Below is a link to UIUC’s guide to transportation that further explains the various options for transportation.
