Congratulations! You finished the school year and now it's time to kick back, relax and enjoy the weather. If you're staying on campus this summer, but aren’t really sure what to do, here’s a list of seven fun activities to do in Champaign-Urbana!
- Enjoy a Movie on the Quad
The Illini Union Board sponsors summer films on the University of Illinois Quad. Starting May 18th (till August 10) you can catch a free movie on the Quad every Thursday at 9 pm. Bring a blanket and snacks and enjoy a movie under the stars with your friends! Enjoy a variety of films this summer ranging from comedy, action, drama, and horror.
- Friday Night Live (Downtown Champaign)
Friday Night Live is held from 6-8 pm every Friday night from June-August. Come enjoy a variety of music and street performances including bluegrass, jazz, folk, soul, rock, country, and blues. These performances are held at the intersection of Neil & Church, Neil & Park, and Market & Taylor in Downtown Champaign.
- Visit the Farmers Market
Visit the Urbana Farmers Market, open every Saturday from 7 am-noon. They sell a variety of items like fresh produce, plants and flowers, as well as art and food. Enjoy the nice weather while taking a morning stroll and see what your local vendors have to offer.
- Join a Group Fitness Class
Staying in shape this summer doesn't have to be boring. Instead, sign up for a group fitness class and work out with your friends! Campus Recreation Instructors are offering classes Monday-Friday, starting as early as 7:15 am with the last class starting at 6:30 pm. They have fun classes like cycling, Zumba, pilates, yoga, and some more challenging courses like Bodypump, HITT, and Bodycombat.

- Enjoy a Picnic at Hessel Park
Want to enjoy the beautiful summer weather? Having a picnic at Hessel Park is a great way to do so! This park has over 22 acres of land as well as some beautiful trails for you and your friends to explore. Whether you want to enjoy an evening stroll or have a relaxing picnic, Hessel Park is the perfect place to soak up the sun.
- Champaign County Fair
The Champaign County Fair is held in Urbana from July 21-29. This fair features some great activities like Dirt Track Racing, a Demolition Derby, Motorcycle Races, and Monster Trucks. The fair also has some delicious food and fun rides. They offer a $30 bracelet for those who want to enjoy unlimited rides.
- Summer Professional Development Workshops
If you're looking for professional development opportunities, Enterprise Works is offering a workshop called “Building Your Personal Brand on Linkedin” with Jarai Carter every Tuesday from 12-1 pm, starting June 6th. This is a great way to build your resume!
