Finding a good study spot can be extremely difficult, especially when the UGL and the Starbucks in the Union are closed. If you’re struggling to find a secluded space to study, check out these outdoor hidden gems!

 

University of Illinois Arboretum 

Just South of Florida Avenue Residence Halls, the University of Illinois Arboretum is free to the public and includes several parks and ponds. The Noel Welcome Garden features benches and a pergola surrounded by crabapple trees and floral landscaping, providing a perfect place to study while experiencing the garden’s beauty. 

 

Carle Park

Urbana’s third oldest park occupies 11 acres and includes a pavilion, open fields, and paved paths, making it a great place to kick back and get your work done. When you need a study break, you can explore the Hickman Tree Walk, which features the largest English Oak tree in Illinois, or check out the “Lincoln the Lawyer” statue.

 

Meadowbrook Park

South Quad

Mattis Park

Mattis Park sits just west of Neil Street, providing the perfect excuse to grab a coffee from Starbucks on the way. Several picnic tables and benches fill the park with various sculptures and a large pond, giving you a scenic outdoor study experience.

 

Hessel Park
